Item Body mass index of a group of Sri Lankan moor children(The Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1993) Chandrasekera, M.S.; Wickramanayake, E.R.1128 Sri Lankan moor children (327 boys and 801 girls) from four Islamic Schools in Kandy and Gampola were studied. The boy mass index (MBI) of the girls at all ages were higher than the BMI of the boys. The boys reach a plateau at 15 years and the girls at 14 years. The Sri Lankan moor children showed similar BMI values to those of sinhalese children of Kadawatha schools but their gender difference was similar to that of the affluent sinhalese children.Item Body mass index of the inhabitants of a purna village in Sri Lanka(The Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1992) Chandrasekera, M.S.; Wickramanayake, E.R.Item Body mass index of the Kandeganvila veddas(The Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1994) Wikramanayake, E.R.; Wickramanayake, T.W.; Chandrasekera, M.S.BMI was calculated from the heights and weights of 37 Veddas (18 males and 19 females) measured in 1971/73 when they were living at Kandeganvila, and of 247 veddas (109 males and 138 females) measured in 1993/94 at Hennanigala South of Mahaweli System 'C', ten years after their change of habitat. Significantly lower BMI's (p0.05) was observed in the preadolescent children, bth males and females, in 1993/94. In general in the adults too a trend towards lower BMI's judged by BMI, of the relocation of the Kandeganvila veddas has been detrimental.Item Item Eruption times of deciduous teeth in a group of Sinhalese children attending well baby clinics(The Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 2004) Wikramanayake, E.R.; Chandrasekera, M.S.The blood pressure of 496(227 males and 269 females) Uva -Bintenne veddas in the age range 1 to 80 years were recorded at Hennanigal South and Dambana. In both males and females there is no progressive increase of pressure with age. In the females both curves are more variable with the systolic pressure higher than in the males except in the age range 31-40 and the diastolic pressure higher up to 50 years. When compared with a 1989 study of a rural breeding isolate of the sinhalese the pressures of both males and females were significantly higher in the age range 1-15 years with no steep rise of the curve from 1-18 years. The aetiology of the difference is postulated to be genetic rather than environmental.Item Variation with sex and age of blood pressure in the inhabitants of a 'PURANA' village in Sri Lanka(The Sri Lanka Medical Association.
