There has been no documentation of writings on food, nutrition and related topics, although these subjects have been researched on for over a century. Many of the present-day researchers are unaware of .what has been done before. There is also duplication of work in several laboratorise because of a lack of awarences of research in progress elsewhere in the country. Publications indexed here are those on food, nutrition and on the relationship between nutrition and health, agriculture, economics and education, and on food and nutrition policy planing, by Sri Lankans and non-Sri Lankans working in Sri Lanka, and by Sri Lankans on research done outside Sri Lanka. ARRANGEMENT The bibliography consists of a subject section and an author index. Under each subject heading entries are listed in chronological order according to the year of publica tion. Subject indexing has been done according to title and, in some cases, after examina tion of the text. References have been listed under broad headings as far as possible. The bibliographical elements included in each entry are listed in the following order': For books, monographs, reports : author, title of publication, place of publication, publisher, year of publication, pagination. For periodical articles: author, title of article, journal title or abbreviation, volume number, year, pagination. A few entries have been incorporated without complete information on pagina tion. METHOD All available medical periodicals and non-medical science periodicals have been indexed. References were obtained by scanning publications, by requesting lists of publications from researchers and from the existing bibliographies on medical science. 1 Only full length publications have been indexed, abstracts of communications to learned societies and references to presentations at meetings and seminars (without sub sequent publication of the paper), and newspaper articles, being excluded. The following bibliographies have been consulted : (1) Selected bibliography of literature on family health education and health behaviour in Sri Lanka, compiled by The Library Documentation Division, National Science Council of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Health Education and Publicity Bureau, Ministry of Health, June, 1974. ^ (2) Bibliography of scientific literature relating to Sri Lanka, First supplement, compiled by N A W A T Alwis.
