Height and weight of 8,610 children, age 5 to 18 years, have been measured and their height and weight increments calculated. Differences in height and weights of the two major ethnic groups, Sinhalese and tamils were not significant. There were marked differences due to varying socio-ecomic-educational levels, especially in the age groups 5 to 10 years . There has been marked secular change in heights and weights during the past 50 years, the increase being more marked among the lower socio-economic groups than among the affluent.en_US
