dc.description.abstract | Investigation were carried out to determine whether the stem bark of ficus benghalensis possesses oral hypoglycaemic activity. The ability of aqueous extracts of this plant material to lower the fasting blood glucose level and improve glucose tolerance was investigated using sprague Dawley rats as the experimental model. The results indicate that the stem bark of Ficus benghalensis is capable of significantly lowering the fasting blood glucose level and markedly improving glucose tolerance in rats.
