Twenty one taxa of 2 subfamilies of the Cucurbitaceae were investigated in regard to karyology. Chromosome numbers corroborate earlier reports. Interphase nuclei help to divide the family into 4 distinct groups. Special reference was drawn to little known cultivars from Sri Lanka.en_US
