Mean ages has been 33.4 30.9 addicts non addicts respectively. 70 has taken heroin by smoking. This drug has been used for 3.2 years 187.5 mg per four times a day. The findings does not any significant difference between body weights blood pressures of addicts non addicts. A glucose tolerance test has shown a significant increase of the mean blood glucose levels in addicts. Also suggests that the mean serum free fatty acid levels mean ratio of serum total cholestrol to HDL cholesterol and serum asparate transaminase (AST) serum alanine trasminase (ALT) levels of addicts were significantly higher than in the non addicts.Item Studies on the effect of Gymnema Sylvestre on diabetics(Natural Resources Energy and Science Authority of Sri Lanka:Colombo, 1992) Balasubramaniam, K.; Arasaratnam, V.; Nageswaran, A.; Anushiyanthan, S.; Mugunthan, N.Item Neutralising lactic acid produced by Lactobacillus casei with calcium carbonate(National Science Council:Colombo, 1999) Sentisiran, A.; Arasaratnam, V.; Balasubramaniam, K.Maintaining pH by neutralising lactic acid with NaOH improves the growth, glucose consumption, and lactic acid production were increased when the pH of the above medium was maintained with CaCO3. When glucose concentration was increased leading to a decrease in growth rate, CaCO3 seems to be effective at high glucose concentration. Adding glucose and CaCO3 at different growth phases did not alter glucose consumption and lactic acid production.\
