Item A comparison of some simple techniques of Haemoglobin measurement(SLMA. Colombo, 1990) Fernando, D.N.; Rajapaksa, L.C.Item Oral hypoglycaemic activity of the stem bark of Ficus benghalensis(Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1987) Fernado, M.R.Investigation were carried out to determine whether the stem bark of ficus benghalensis possesses oral hypoglycaemic activity. The ability of aqueous extracts of this plant material to lower the fasting blood glucose level and improve glucose tolerance was investigated using sprague Dawley rats as the experimental model. The results indicate that the stem bark of Ficus benghalensis is capable of significantly lowering the fasting blood glucose level and markedly improving glucose tolerance in rats. The hypoglycaemic effects produced by a therapeutic doseItem Evaluation of the galactagoguic activity of Asparagus falcatus(Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1987) Tennekoon, K.H.; Karunanayake, E.H.; Mahindaratna, M.P.D.Aqueous, methanol, methylene and protein extracts of roots of Asparagus falcatus were administered orally to lactating sprague dawley rats for one week from the fifth day after the delivery. The weight gain of the litter was compared with control groups in order to evaluate the galactagoguic activity of the extracts. A significant increase in the percentage weight weght gain of the litter was not observed in the treatment groups following administration of any of these extracts. This is suggestive of an absence of galactagoguic activity in the extracts of A. falcatus investigated, at the doses administered.Item SA nodal artery - its origin in relation to the dominancy of coronary arteries(The Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1994) Gajamange, N.; Perera, J.Eighty hearts were dissected and the right and left coronary arteries, posterior interventricular branch and the sinuatrial nodal artery were identified.
