Item An evaluation of the usefulness of different diameters of skin reactions elicited by Mycobacterium leprae antigens(Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1989) Pinto, M.R.M.; Eriyagama, N.B.; Gamage, T.M.; Sivarajasingham, S.The advantages of the transverse, vertical and mean diameters for the measurement of skin reactions with M. leprae antigents were evaluated. iT was decided that the vertical and mean diameters offered no improvement over the transverse diameter and hence the use of the latter is recommended.Item The relationship between reactivities to Lepromin A and soluble protein antigen of mycobacterium leprae and tuberculin(Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1986) Pemajayantha, V.; Pinto, M.R.M.; Eriyagama, N.B.The relationship between reactivity to tuberculin (PPD-R123) and reactivities to antigens of Mycobacterium leptae (Fernadez, Mitsuda and to a Soluble Protein antigen of M. leprae) was studied using three methods. A clear relationship could be demonstrated with two of the methods. A statistically significant correlation coul be demonstrated by the method of regression analysis between tuberculin and all three types of reactivities; however the level of correlation was unusually low. This study also revealed an increase of all three types of reactivity with BCG vaccination.Item Socio-cultural malnutrition in the estate sector of Sri Lanka. 3.. influence of parental demographic and economic factors on the nutritional status of pre-school children(Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1986) Liyanage, C.E.; Wickramanayake, T.W.The relationships between the nutritional status of 420 pre-school children living on 4 tea estates in the districts of KAndy and Nuwara Eliya and parental, demographic and economic factors have been studied. Nutritional status of pre-school children was found to depend on the body weight and skin fold thickness and on the levels of basic nutritional knowledge of the mother, on the per capita income of household and whether the family reared livestock or not . The prevalence of under nutrition increased with family size and birthrank of the child and with decrease in family income. The urgent need for improving sanitation and providing primary health care to the estate population is stressed.Item Neonatal conjunctivitis. aetiology, diagnosis and treatment(Faculty of Medicine. Colombo, 1996) Perera, J.; Witana, N.; Seneviratne, H.R.In a case control study of 426 unselected deliveries at the De Soysa Hospital for Women, 85(20perc.) infants had conjuctivitis. Chlamydia species and viruses were not detected. Staphylococcus aureus was the commonest pathogen isolated and was detected in 47perc. of cases. Klebsiella spp was isolate from 27perc. Pseudomonas spp. Streptococcus viridana and coliform isolation rates were not significantly different to that of controls, although significantly higher counts of bacteria were found in the cases. Therefore it would be more useful to the clinician if the laboratory report indicated the severity of infection. Only 51perc. of the isolates were sensitive to the conventionally use antibiotic, chloramphenicol. Treatment with salin washes appear to be sufficient in the first few days of the illness as there is spontaneous resolution of clinical appearence within 48-72 hr in a majority of patientsItem Biological characteristics of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from hospitals in Colombo(Faculty of Medicine. Colombo, 1996) De Silva, N.; Mendis, L.Item Helicobacter pylori serology in two MOH areas of the Western province of Sri Lanka(University of Colombo. Colombo, 2003) Fernando, N.; Weerasekera, D.; Fernando, S.; Liyanage, N.; Holton, J.Item Aflatoxin contamination of coconut products(University of Ceylon. Colombo, 1971) Arsecularatne, S.N.; De Silva, L.M.Item A preliminary report on comparison of tube and slide agglutination tests in the diagnosis of typhoid(The Sri Lanka Medical Association. Colombo, 1992) Thevanesan, V.; Fernando, A.T.P.G.; Gamage, T.M.A comparison between the standard agglutination test (SAT) by the conventional tube test and a slide agglutination method was carried out in 11 patients with a clinical and serological diagnosis of typhoid and 54 patients with nontyphoidal illnesses. 55perc. of patients in the first group had a negative O titre using the slide agglutination tets. There was a 73perc. discrepancy between the 2 tests in the O titre in the first group and 56perc. and 50perc. discrepancy in the 2nd and 3rd groups respectively. The H antibody titre gave more comparable results in the 2 tests. Further validation of the slide agglutination test is required before it is recommended for clinical practiceItem Enteropathogenic escherichia coli among children(University of Ceylon. Colombo, 1966) Velaudapillai, T.; Mendis, O.; Niles, G.R.Item Comparison of drugs in diarrhoea of children(University of Ceylon. Colombo, 1956) Schmid, E.E.%Seneviratne, Y
